The Sun Shines Even In Winter:
A Novel of Invasion and Espionage In World War I
Dieter Jaeger has just been diagnosed with a fatal heart defect, and he’s left University to return to his home in Lille, France. He doesn’t know that he’s only months away from the outbreak of the German invasion of his city and country. He only knows he doesn’t want to burden the woman he loves with his condition.
Then his brother takes him to a bar where he meets a seductress who later asks them both to join the resistance. At first he refuses.
Events soon conspire to change the direction of his life when an invading army overruns his city, his family and fiancee are taken captive, and his uncle, a high-ranking general in the Prussian army, arrives to give him an ultimatum.
“Work as a spy for the Kaiser, and I’ll free your family. Or refuse and you’ll spend the war in prison.”
