WRITING

Bestselling author Mark E. Fisher wrote his first twelve pages at the age of ten, complete with pictures of Indians, a stampede, and a prairie fire. More recently, he’s been writing bestselling Christian end-times thrillers. Before that, he authored historical fiction based in ancient Celtic Ireland, Renaissance Italy, and World War I Belgium.

Mark’s series of three Christian historical novels set in ancient, Celtic Ireland at the time of St. Patrick begins with The Bonfires of Beltane. The Medallion, a high-adventure sequel  and a stand-alone book, follows in A.D. 486. The Slaves Of Autumn, set in A.D. 408, is a prequel. It’s a high-adventure stand-alone book, and is the last in the series.

Mark has also written two novels of general market historical fiction: Death Of The Master Builder: Love, Envy, and the Struggle to Raise the Greatest Cathedral in the Italian Renaissance, and The Sun Shines Even in Winter: A Novel of Invasion and Espionage in World War I.

A New Genre

When Christian author Mark E. Fisher saw the accumulating signs of the end of days, he wrote Days of the Apocalypse, a series of Christian end-times thrillers closely based on the books of Revelation, Joel, Daniel, Ezekiel, Matthew, and others. That five-book series became an Amazon bestseller in several categories. He is now writing a follow-on series, Apocalypse Mission, that also became a bestseller.

Interests

Mark enjoys reading historical fiction, fantasy, and the classics. He is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, the Minnesota Christian Writer’s Guild, Realm Makers, and The Historical Novel Society of North America.

When he’s not traveling, you will find Mark at his desk writing. Or eating out. Or working to help fund foreign mission. Or leading a small group Bible study. Or walking his dog, Chloe, an extremely cute, miniature Australian shepherd who drags her master around the neighborhood at least two or three miles each day, and insists on plenty of time chasing balls and toys.

EDUCATION AND WORK

Mark E. Fisher has degrees in Anthropology/Sociology (B.S., 1973), Computer Science (M.S., 1980), and Ministry (M.Min, 2013). He has worked at Ramco Railroad, welding rails together; Pittsburgh Plate Glass, inspecting auto glass; and for seven years at the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Aurora and in Elgin, Illinois, as a welfare caseworker. That is where he met his future wife Barbara who had the desk behind him. After he learned computer programming, he worked at IBM Rochester for twenty-eight years. There he programmed communications microcode for the S/34, S/36, AS/400 and bus transport microcode for the i- and p-series hypervisor. In 2009, IBM and Mark parted ways, after which his writing career began in earnest.

FAITH

In 2007, Mark declared in public that Jesus was the Son of God and was baptized into the Christian faith. He then created and taught a twenty-week course on Christian apologetics at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester, Minnesota. He has led numerous Bible studies, and for years was active on that church’s missions team, helping to send the Gospel “to the ends of the earth”. Next, he helped plant The Gathering Church of Rochester, and for five years, until September 2019 when the church closed, he served as a community group leader, head of missions, treasurer, and sometime elder. He now attends Mosaic Church in Rochester. He is also on the boards of two 501(c)(3) organizations: 1. He is the treasurer of New Gospel Frontiers, a missions agency whose purpose is to collect funds from across the U.S. to help spread the Gospel in Central Asia and Africa, and 2. The Lord’s Discipleship House, a house for men recovering from alcohol and drug addiction.

WHERE IS HOME?

Rochester, Minnesota—just south of the frozen tundra—is where Mark and his wife, Barbara, call home. He enjoys traveling, and he and Barbara have visited missionaries in the Dominican Republic and Japan. They have made weeks-long forays to Ireland, Italy, France, Portugal, and Switzerland where story ideas seek him out. To escape the Minnesota snows, they spend time each winter at a beach on a Mexican island. They have two sons, one of whom went home to the Lord in 2023, six lively grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
